Portugal Calling…
Posted @withregram • @migramediaacts_ As part of the International Conference of the MigraMediaActs project, a special session of the Communication and Diversity / Virtual Museum of Lusophony Seminar will take place, featuring the screening of two films and a discussion with the directors.
Leena Manimekalai, a renowned Tamil poet and award-winning intersectional queer feminist filmmaker, has an extensive, acclaimed filmography that has been showcased at over 100 international festivals. Her notable works include Maadathy – an unfairy tale, Sengadal – the Dead Sea, White Van Stories, Is it too much to ask, Goddesses, and My Mirror is the Door.
She was recognized as a BAFTA India Breakthrough Talent (2022–23), Artist-in-Residence at the Jackman Humanities Institute – University of Toronto and the Centre for Free Expression – Toronto Metropolitan University, and was honored by PEN America (2023) as one of twenty artists inspiring global change. Leena holds an MFA in Film from York University and currently teaches in the Department of Visual Studies at the University of Toronto, Mississauga.
